Photo du Jour #3

Beach Huts - Hove

Well a few weeks ago on I was waiting for a delivery for a motorcycle part, sadly said part did not arrive/ courier didn't knock just left their scrap of paper saying they would be coming on Monday.

So with this disappointing news I decided to venture outside as the sun was shining, I decided to head down to sea front and battle through the crowds of tourists, children using their bicycles for the only time this year until they get abandon in the back garden of no return and all the locals in their spandex running gear who stuffed their faces with their free range organic locally sourced festive related troff. As I dodge and weaved through the carnage of man kind, momentarily everyone seemed to of disappeared and I managed to get this wee little gem of a snap, and about 3 seconds later an armada of infants on scooters invaded the space. Such is life eh?

Photo du Jour #2

Chateau Carbonneau

Last month I was lucky enough to be sent to Bordeaux by work for a mini wine education holiday, which entail meant me and my chums got to go to fabulous Chateaus in the region (left bank to precise where Merlot is grown more) this was the very first Chateau I visited a lovely 3rd family generation owned Chateau. This is the where the wine is fermented it was a lovely old barn with creaky floor boards and dodgy stairs that encouraged you to brake your neck. I left the Chateau via the gift shop clutching to very nice bottles of red, mmmmmmm wine, tasty tasty beautiful wine, wine wine, WINE, GRAPES, CORKS ANOTHER GLASS PLEASE. *collapses*

P.S. I'm a bit of a wine snob... sorry if I ever talk about wine like a ponce. I am that guy at parties that knows about the wine who you all hate. I'm also the guy at the party who brings nice wine who you lot want to consume as soon as possible "ooh yes I can really smell the vanilla notes, can I have another glass"

Photo Du Jour #1

Welcome to Photo du Jour,

Photo du Jour will just be what it says on the tin, It's one of my photos I want to share with you lot.

This is my pal Abi, a very good friend of mine and someone who always looks cool in front of the camera, I shot this last week ago on in the grounds of Hatfield House. She makes a good model but the weather made us all miserable so we retreated to the pub for a nice glass of red. Wine makes everything better.

Premier Trophy Helmet Review

Well here's my first attempt of a review, This is my recently purchased Premier Trophy helmet.
I bought this is the July 14 and I've been riding it now for around 5 months, I've covered around 4000 miles with this lid.

When I was on the hunt of for a new piece of face saving protection, I didn't fancy another power-ranger glitter ball, I wanted to find something classical, something that gave a little nod to the yesteryear of motorcycling, And after hours of scouring the internet in my pants late at night, it turns out theres hardy any modern day full faced helmets, if you want retro you have to sacrifice your face with an open face helmet leaving it to the elements to turn your face into something that resembles one of Picasso's masterpieces.

So finally I stumbled up on the little gem of a website know as Urban Rider which have a clever ethos of blending style and motorcycle protection, after flipping threw their full face options I was left with 2 options; The very beautiful and pricy Bell Bullet or the charming Premier Trophy, A little bit of research later into Premiers history I discovered it has a rich history in motorcycling, including Phil Read before he moved to Arai.

So now to the Helmet, I did a little trip up to London to the Urban Rider store to try the helmet on, the staff in their where very nice and the store makes your wallet want to commit suicide. I was originally after the gloss white version of the Trophy but alas it seems like Medium is a popular size in helmets. So the gent behind the counter disappeared for a good 10 mins having a rummage around the stockroom and returned with a matt black version, I've never been a big fan of Matt black, but when I tried it on with my Trialmaster style jacket I did come all over with rose tinted glasses and before you knew I gave the man £180.

So the helmet its self is made from a DCA (Dyneema/ Carbon/ Aramidic fibre) shell, its just made form one mould not bits put together giving it its sleek minimal design, the interior is a combination of fabrics and leather-esque which goes hand in hand with its out counter-partner. It has a good old fashion flat chin guard which many people still look at with confusion, and a press stud visor which is a strange one to get use to.

PROS
  • Looks positively beautiful
  • The padding cuddles your cranium
  • Its quite light on (1290grams)
  • You can't feel nothing but cool, especially when you see your self in a shop windows reflection.
CONS
  • THE WIND, anything above 65mph sounds like your head is stuck in an abundance of white noise - earplugs recommended
  • That visor, its nice and vintage-y but press studs are a right ball ache when your at the traffic lights its steams up and have to wrestle your face off so you can see, it does feel a tad crude and fogs up far to often...
  • I would of like to see Premier add a wind protector underneath the chin guard, the amount of wind noise is cancelled out if you cover it up is jaw droppingly incredible
Overall though, I love it, the helmet is pretty cool, especially if you have a classic bike, Sadly I don't but it doesn't look to shabby on my XJ600. The wind noise is a monster but its easily remedied, and the visor is a poo, I would like Premier to do a better visor for this helmet. But its one of the few affordable vintage styled EC approved full face helmets on the UK market and you know you look the bees knees wearing it.

P.S. Yes I took the photo. Not too shabby eh?
P.S.S. And yes that is a white scuff mark, you can thank the that lovely stone that got flicked up by a car... Bastard.
